Seoul Energy Corporation to Establish Eco-friendly Smart Energy City Model in Magok District

Seoul Energy Corporation announced its ‘Smart Energy City’ Model Establishment Project in Magok District with partner enterprises including GS E&C, LG Electronics, and GS Power, which it hopes will enable a paradigm shift in the city’s energy management.


A Smart Energy City is a new model for urban development that adopts ICT to expand the use of eco-friendly energy and enhance quality of life, and is considered an optimal approach to resolving urban energy issues such as particulate matters or climate change through the convergence of renewable energy and the 4th Industrial Revolution.


With the global expansion of eco-friendly urban construction projects, Seoul Energy Corporation signed an MOU on the Establishment of a Smart Energy City in Magok District, Gangseo-gu with Gangseo-gu Office, Korea Energy Agency, Seoul Housing and Communities Corporation, and LG Electronics, and launched the ‘Magok Energy City Forum’ to collect the diverse opinions of the public. The Corporation was also selected as the general management authority for the national agenda on ‘the Development of a Smart Zero Energy City’ alongside 23 institutes and corporations including GS E&C, Korea Land & Housing Corporation, Korea Institute of Energy Research and Korea Institute of Civil Engineering and Building Technology, and is promoting the ‘Cascade Heat Utilization Project’ in Magok District to facilitate the wider application of new and renewable energy and unused energy.


Seoul Energy Corporation announced that five representative Smart Energy City models, including Smart Energy Home, Smart Energy Building, Smart Energy Community, Smart Energy Town, and Smart Energy Heat Grid (District Heating) will be established in ‘Smart Energy City’ inside Magok District to create a safe, pleasant, eco-friendly and future-oriented energy conversion city. The Corporation predicts that Magok District will be able to reach 30% electricity self-sufficiency by 2022, reduce its particulate matter (air pollution) by 190 tons every year, and reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 180,000 tons every year.
